Spring Cleaning 2024
Spring is the perfect time to give your home a much-needed reset after a chilly winter! It’s the beginning of spring cleaning, which is not only good for your house but also for your mental and physical health.
The best way to start spring cleaning and decluttering, especially if you don’t have the most time on your hands, is to break up your home into manageable sections. Starting with these smaller projects will help you immediately feel the difference in your home!
Here are 5 areas in your home that you can quickly declutter and organize to kickstart your spring cleaning routine this year so you can feel relaxed in your home!
- The Shower
- Utensil Drawer
- Spice Rack
- Sock and Underwear Drawer
- Nightstand
1. The Shower
It’s so easy to let your shower become cluttered. Bottles of products pile up as you forget to take them out at the end of your wash. So, let’s do some self-reflection. Here’s what to ask yourself when you’re decluttering your shower:
- Does this product need to be in the shower all the time?
- Do I still use this product?
- Are any of these bottles empty?
Not only is decluttering this area a great way to reduce visual clutter, but it also means more efficient showers. You know exactly what products you have, you don’t use anymore, and what you need more of!
2. Utensil Drawer
Your kitchen utensil drawer is a great organizing job you can finish quickly. Since it’s a space you use constantly every day, it’s super important to keep up with!
Start by getting rid of extra or mismatched things you don’t need – condiment packets, plastic silverware, damaged items, or any other random item that doesn’t belong!
There are a lot of great drawer-organizing products that can work great for this space. For my drawer, I modified a custom kit to perfectly fit my utensils and a pair of kitchen scissors.
3. Spice Rack
Do you constantly find yourself trying to find that one spice you know you have, just to give up and buy a new one? This is exactly why organizing your spice rack is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.
After you’ve checked for expiration dates and thought about which ones to keep, you can choose your organizing method. There are so many ways to organize this space – by name, sweet vs. savory, color, cuisine, or even by how often you use it!
The key to setting up an efficient spice rack system is ensuring it works for your cooking style and preferences!
4. Sock and Underwear Drawer
Like any organizing project, there’s no right or wrong way to organize your sock and underwear drawer. Of course, after weeding out any old, damaged, or pieces that no longer fit, you can create a system that works for you.
For me, I like everything in one drawer. Bras are stacked to the side, socks lay in the middle, and underwear stays in a bag to the right. Some people like to use drawer dividers or separate drawers altogether, but I find this way works best for me.
5. Nightstand
Nightstands are where you keep items you may need when you’re in bed. This might seem obvious, but you’d be surprised how quickly these drawers can accumulate miscellaneous items that don’t belong!
In my nightstand drawers, I like to keep things I might need in the middle of the night like earplugs, chapstick, and fluffy socks to stay warm. I know others like to keep pajamas, books, medication, or a notepad and pen as well.
